Most of us use carpets in our residences. Some use carpets to enhance the decor of our rooms and provide an aesthetic look whereas some use carpets to meet some of their needs.

But before installing carpets on our floors have we ever thought about the pros and cons of carpets? Most of us have never thought about it. 

Carpets can provide you with a cozier feeling in the room along with trapping some hazardous particles within them. So like other things it is not free from drawbacks though having some advantages.

Purposes of Carpet

Carpets have certain advantages which tempt us to install those on our floor along with some drawbacks. Carpets serve 2 kinds of purposes:

Functional purposes are the purposes that are required for our lifestyle rather than decorating us.

  1. Decorative purpose:

Decorative purpose only serves the purpose of decoration.

Pros of Carpet

The advantages of carpets are described below:

Cheap flooring solution

Carpeting the floor is a cheaper flooring solution than others. It has a functional purpose.

Provides soft underfoot 

Quality carpets provide a soft feeling to our underfoot. It serves a functional purpose

Absorbs sound

Quality underlayments of carpets absorb sounds and work as a sound insulator.

Provides warmth

Carpets absorb heat and moisture. So it provides a cozy environment during winter.

Enhances room decoration

Carpets of various designs and patterns serve the decorative function. It decorates the floors and provides an aesthetic look.

Cons of Carpet

There is nothing on earth without a negative impact. So there are some disadvantages of having a carpet which are described below:

Trapped dust particles

Carpets trap dust particles which pollute the air of the room.

Trapped allergens

Carpets trap allergen particles which may affect the tenant’s lungs and cause respiratory difficulties

Costly maintenance

Costly products and chemicals are required to maintain the appearance of the carpet. The process is also difficult.

Difficulties while cleaning

The cleaning procedure is also time-consuming and troublesome. Often professionals are required to clean carpets.

Infects with molds

Carpets get infested by molds if it remains in wet condition for a period by accident. Stains also cause a similar problem and give rise to bacteria.

Unhygienic

Carpets provide an unhygienic environment if not maintained regularly and cleaned properly. Frequent cleaning and maintenance are required as it traps dust particles.

Is it better to have a carpet or not?

I would suggest not using carpets in the bedroom especially as our body relaxes there except for some special requirements. Such you are not suggested to use carpets in the bedroom just for decorative purposes. But you may use it if the room is for children and they may fall on the floor while carpets can prevent the damage.

Although you can use them anywhere then you need to clean the dust particles regularly and once a year should hire a professional to clean them thoroughly.
