What Tool To Use To Cut Up Carpet

Cutting up carpet: Which tool to use?

So you want to get rid of your carpet or install new carpet. No problem! This article will help you decide which tool to use.

A few years ago, I was asked to cut up a large area of carpet. The entire process took two days, and it was a very long, hard job. It was slow, tedious work that required proper tools to do the job properly. However, after I got my carpet cutting tools together, I found that most of them were too big for the task at hand. Most carpets are 1/2″ thick or less. It’s a lot of work to cut the carpet into 8′ by 4′. That was over 6 tons!

Thanks to electric carpet cutters, they made my job easier.

There are many methods to cut up carpet, but most of them are very difficult and time-consuming. If you have just moved into a new house or apartment, you may not be able to handle this work by yourself. In such cases, we would recommend renting a carpet cutter for cutting up carpets instead of doing it by yourself.

Tools You Can Use To Cut Carpet

Electric carpet cutters

You can buy an electric cutter for cutting up carpets from the nearest lumber store or online at Amazon. It will cost about $200-$300 to rent for 2 working days in most northeast US cities. Carpet cutters of this type have specific blades, motors and rotating wheels that are designed to go through carpet fibers quickly into 1/2″- 3/4″ chunks using less pressure on your arms and hands.

You can even watch the carpet being cut up in real time! Motorized carpet cutters are much faster than a manual carpet cutter and very safe to use. They only take up 420-440 watts, so you need not worry about eye strain or any physical violence like elbow in your eyes while cutting down big carpets with heavy weights on both of your shoulders!

Utility Knife

You may also use a utility knife if you have one, but it would be easier to just buy an electric cutter instead of manually cutting the thick pile of carpet into smaller and more manageable chunks as each pass through the blades can add up to 1/2″-1″ thickness, which makes you tired in a few passes.

A utility knife isn’t really powerful enough to cut through carpets of this thickness. These tools would work better on softer carpet types and those thinner than 1/2″.
